How FilamentPick builds and reviews settings
Our values are conservative starting profiles designed to shorten calibration—not universal promises for every spool, nozzle and slicer.

What each profile combines
- Printer hardware: extruder type, hotend construction, enclosure and practical speed range.
- Material behavior: common temperature range, cooling needs, moisture sensitivity and warping risk.
- Manufacturer documentation and established material references.
- A conservative baseline that leaves room for brand and environmental variation.
Our calibration order
- Safety and compatibility. Check hotend limits, enclosure needs, ventilation and nozzle wear.
- Filament condition. Dry moisture-sensitive materials before tuning.
- First layer. Clean the plate and verify Z offset and adhesion method.
- Temperature. Run a tower at the intended speed and layer height.
- Flow and dynamics. Tune flow ratio and pressure advance.
- Retraction and cooling. Change these after moisture, temperature and flow are stable.
- Validation. Print a small model that reflects the final part.
What the numbers mean

| Hotend temperature | A starting value plus a useful tower range where available. |
| Bed temperature | A first-layer baseline; plate coating can change the best value. |
| Speed | A practical profile speed, limited by hotend volumetric flow and part geometry. |
| Retraction | A conservative value based on direct-drive or Bowden geometry. |
| Part cooling | A balance between surface quality, bridges and layer bonding. |
Limits and corrections
Important: manufacturer guidance and the filament’s label take priority. Do not exceed the printer’s rated temperature. Use ventilation appropriate to the material and local environment.
Profiles are reviewed when manufacturer guidance changes or search and user data reveal a recurring calibration problem. A setting should be treated as a baseline until it has been validated on the exact spool and machine.
