Nozzle & Layer Height Calculator

Layer height and line width should scale with your nozzle. Enter your nozzle diameter and planned layer height to get the safe min/max layer height, recommended line width and how your layer compares to the nozzle.

About this calculator

Ranges are derived from your nozzle diameter using the widely used 25–80% layer-height rule and 105–120% line-width guidance. Currency and typical prices are auto-detected from your locale and fully editable, so it works whether you’re in the US, UK, Germany, India, Vietnam or anywhere else.

FAQ

What’s the 25–80% rule?
Layer height should stay between ~25% and ~80% of nozzle diameter for reliable adhesion and extrusion. Below 25% the nozzle can drag; above 80% layers bond poorly.
What line width is best?
A line width of 100–120% of nozzle diameter is a good default — e.g. 0.42–0.48 mm for a 0.4 mm nozzle. Wider improves strength; narrower improves detail.
