Best PLA Temperature (Hotend & Bed)

PLA is forgiving on temperature, but the difference between a stringy, weak print and a crisp, strong one is often just 5–10°C. Here is how to find your number.

The PLA temperature range

PLA prints across roughly 190–220°C. Cooler gives sharper detail and less stringing; hotter gives stronger layer bonding and better flow at speed. Basic PLA is happy near 200–205°C, while PLA+, silk and matte variants often want 210–225°C.

Faster printing needs more heat: a high-speed printer pushing 150–250 mm/s may need 15–25°C above the "book" value because the filament has less time in the melt zone.

PLA bed temperature and first layer

Set the bed to 55–60°C. PLA does not need a hot bed, and going too hot can cause "elephant foot" (a bulging first layer). For a clean base: level the bed, set a correct Z-offset, and slow the first layer to 20–30 mm/s. A textured PEI sheet grips PLA so well that many users print with no bed heat at all.

Run a temperature tower

Is 210°C good for PLA?
Yes — 210°C is a solid all-round PLA temperature, especially for PLA+ and for faster printing. Basic PLA can often go 5–10°C cooler.
What bed temp for PLA?
55–60°C works for almost all PLA. Too hot risks elephant foot; a textured sheet may need no heat at all.
Why does my PLA have elephant foot?
The first layer is being squished and softened — lower the bed temperature a few degrees, raise the Z-offset slightly, or add a small chamfer to the model base.
