PLA is one of the least warp-prone filaments, so if yours is lifting or jamming, the cause is usually different from ABS-style warping. And its real ceiling is heat resistance — something no slicer setting can raise much.
PLA barely warps — so what’s lifting?
PLA shrinks very little as it cools, so true warping is rare. If corners lift it is almost always a dirty plate, a wrong Z-offset or a draft — not the material. Clean the bed with soap and water, set the Z-offset, add a brim, and close nearby windows.
Heat creep: PLA jams in an enclosure
Ironically, PLA’s low melting point causes a specific problem: in an enclosed or hot chamber, heat travels up the heat-break and softens filament before the nozzle, causing clogs known as heat creep. If you print PLA in an enclosure, leave the door open and make sure the hotend’s heatsink fan is working. This is the opposite of ABS, which needs the enclosure.
PLA heat resistance and how to improve it
Standard PLA softens (glass transition) around 55–60°C. You can raise this a little by annealing — heating a finished part in an oven so the plastic crystallises — but parts can shrink and distort, so it is fussy. For any part that will get genuinely hot, the honest answer is to switch material: PETG handles ~70–80°C, ABS/ASA more still.
